Gone With the Wind
For my mother's birthday, I have decided to review of the quintessential films of 1939 and one of her favorite movies, Gone With the Wind is a sweeping epic of romance, war, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. By using Technicolor, the film has outstanding visuals and impeccable technical achievement. It is also dull as dishwater.
I am one of the minority who does not like GWTW. While it is a beautifully made film with the costuming expertly showing off the Technicolor process, the actual story is really boring. Some of the acting also is a bit over the top with Leigh's shouting "I will never go hungry again" to the heavens being one of the more memorable moments.
This four hour monstrosity would not be so arduous to view if the plot was not so dull. They either should have made a war film or a romance. Not both.
Overall Rating: 1.5/5 (I graded it slightly higher because of its technical merits.)
